Three people, including a policeman were killed in a two-car collision at Km66, Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu, near Kampung Pak Kancil, in Setiu early Sunday morning.
In the incident at about 3.30am, Faiezal Abdul Kayim, 42, who works at the Pekan district police headquarters, Pahang, and his friend Ahmad Zaki Baharudin, 37, died on the spot while Nur Lyza Syahira Ahmad Hazly, 17, who was in a separate car died on arrival at the Setiu Hospital.
During the incident, the Proton Wira car with Faiezal and his two friends was heading to Kota Bharu from Kuala Terengganu before colliding with the car driven by Nur Lyza Syahira, coming from the opposite direction.
The driver of the Proton Wira, Mohd Hizami Abdul Halim, 32, suffered minor injuries while a passenger of the car driven by Nur Lyza Syahira, that is Nur Laila Zukiman, 15, suffered serious injuries and another passenger, Mohd Hasraf Abdullah, 17, suffered broken teeth.
Setiu district police chief DSP Zulkifli Mat Deris when contacted, confirmed the incident, adding that the bodies had been sent to Setiu Hospital, while the injured were also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, in KUANTAN, a man was killed after the car driven by his sister skidded and hit the road barrier in KM238 East Coast Expressway (LPT) near Gambang here, early Sunday morning.
Pahang Investigations and Traffic Enforcement Department chief Supt Mohd Noor Yusof Ali said, in the incident at 5.50am, the victim Shahrul Nazri Mohamed, 40, from Jalan Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's parents Mohamed Ab Rahman, 69, Rubiah Abdullah (age unknown) and his sister Shahirah, 23, who was driving the car also sustained injuries in the accident, he said.
"They were believed to be travelling to Shah Alam, Selangor from Kota Bharu, Kelantan when the driver lost control of the vehicle causing all the victims to be trapped in the Nissan Slyphy car," he told reporters here yesterday.
Shahrul Nazri's body was taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. The injured also sought treatment at the same hospital.
Preliminary investigation also found that the driver did not have a valid driving licence, he said.
