Three killed in illegal motorcycle race near Simpang Pulai

Three youths including two college students were killed in an illegal motorcycle race at KM283.6 of the North-South Expressway (southbound), near Simpang Pulai, early today.
Those killed in the 3.20am incident have been identified as Mohd Azwandi Riffen, 26, from Sungai Siput, and college students Muhamad Nursyafiq Sham, 19, from Malim Nawar, and Syed Muhammad Aiman Syed Hassandi, 18, from Sungai Siput.
Perak police Public Order and Traffic Department chief, Supt Wan Jamil Wan Chik, said it was understood that the three were with about 100 other motorcyclists racing on the highway from the Ipoh South toll plaza (Ampang) towards Simpang Pulai.
"They are said to have collided with each other, tumbled over onto the road and died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries," he said when contacted, here, today.
All the other motorcyclists were said to have fled the scene when police arrived.
"The victims' three motorcycles were not found at the scene and we believe they were taken away by their friends," said Wan Jamil.
The remains of the three victims were sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
Police are tracing those involved in the illegal race.
