The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said it has received reports that on May 29 at 5.40 pm (local time), three Malaysian students were detained by the Greater Manchester Police.

"It is believed that the students were brought to the Longsight Police Station in Manchester, for questioning. All three students were later released at 9.00 pm (local time)," Wisma Putra said in a statement here today.

The Ministry wishes to advise the public to remain vigilant and follow the instructions by the local authorities. Malaysians living in Manchester are advised to report to the High Commission of Malaysia in London as per below:

In a separate statement, Wisma Putra said Malaysia condemns the launch of a ballistic missile by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the eastern coast of Wonsan also on May 29.

"This is the third launch within a month, making it a total of nine launches to-date this year. The continued refusal by the DPRK to immediately stop its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, as prescribed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), has further escalated the already tense situation in the Korean Peninsula," it said.

The statement added that Malaysia further condemns the flagrant violation by the DPRK of the relevant UNSC resolutions.

"Malaysia strongly urges the DPRK to fulfil its international obligations in the interest of regional and international peace and security. In this regard, Malaysia calls for the resumption of peaceful dialogue and negotiations between the DPRK and the relevant parties," it said.
