Three Malaysian students questioned by Manchester police safe - Reezal

The three Malaysian students who were questioned by Greater Manchester police regarding the bombing incident at Manchester Arena, are safe.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said he has been in contact with the trio and has confirmed that they are safe.

"I know them personally and I have met two of the three students during a getting-to-know-you session with Malaysian students in Manchester earlier this year.

"I have been in communication with all of them and I am happy to say that they are all safe," he said in a media statement.

Reezal, who is also the chairman of the UMNO Malaysia overseas students' bureau, urged Malaysians staying around Manchester area to always be in touch with the Malaysian High Commission in in London.

He also thanked the High Commission for ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens, especially the students there.

Yesterday, Wisma Putra, in a statement said the students were brought to the Longsight Police Station in Manchester on May 29 for questioning at 5.40pm local time.

They were later released at 9pm local time.

Before this, The Times reported that the trio were being investigated because their address was used by Salman Abedi, the suicide bomber who caused the death of 22 people at a concert performed by US pop star Ariana Grande.
