Three masked robbers, armed with a pump gun, a pistol, an axe and a hammer escaped with five trays of jewellery at a goldsmith shop in Jalan Sepakat here this Tuesday morning.
Kerian district police chief Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said in the 11.27am incident, the suspects broke the automatic door of the premises then fired a shot with the pump gun before fleeing with the jewellery in a car, bearing false registration number plates.
"An investigation revealed that the modus operandi is similar as the robbery incident at a jewellery shop in the Parit Buntar town in 2013," he told reporters when met at the scene.
Omar Bakhtiar said the amount of losses incurred was still under investigation and that police had launched an operation code named 'Op Tutup' to track down the suspects.
