MCA has shortlisted three candidates for the Bukit Gelugor by-election scheduled on May 25.
Its president, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the names of the candidates would be submitted to Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak for his consideration.
Other than saying all candidates are local residents, Liow declined to divulge further details on the list.
"We will not be discussing our candidates in the mass media as I need to respect the Prime Minister, who is also BN chairman...we will discuss the matter internally," he told reporters after attending a dialogue with the state MCA leadership here Friday.
Asked if the list of candidates was an indication that MCA was going to contest the by-election, Liow said: "We will discuss that within BN. I do not want to say anything more than that. This is an MCA seat and we have been making preparations from day one all this while, before and after the election.
The Election Commission has set May 25 as polling day for the Bukit Gelugor by-election after its member of Parliament Karpal Singh was killed in a road accident on April 17.
