Three Turks detained in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang on May 2 and 4 over their suspected involvement in terrorist activities have been deported to their country of origin last night.
Three Turks detained in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang on May 2 and 4 over their suspected involvement in terrorist activities have been deported to their country of origin last night.
The men were identified as Ismet Ozcelik, 58, Turgay Karaman, 43, and Ihsan Aslan aged 39.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said they were deported for being involved in the Fetullah Terrorist Organisation (Feto) which had been gazetted as a terrorist organisation by the Turkish Government and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
"The three were deported after we found they were involved in Feto activities and were wanted by the Turkish authorities.
"Apart from that, their travel documents had been cancelled by the Turkish Government and their presence in Malaysia was illegal and they were considered illegal immigrants," he said in a statement today.
Khalid added the three were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
"The police will continue to monitor and take action against any group or foreign terrorists attempting to use Malaysia for logistics, shelter and data base operation to attack Malaysia or other countries," he said.
The IGP said the process of deportation was conducted by the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division and the Immigration Department
On May 2, the police detained Ozcelik in Chenor, Pahang while compatriots Karaman and Aslan were detained in Damansara Heights for suspected involvement in activities threatening the country''s security.
