Tian Chua claims trial to insulting police officer

Batu MP Tian Chua pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to uttering words intended to insult the modesty of a police officer in April.
Tian Chua, whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, 50, is alleged to have uttered the words at DSP Glenn A. Sinappah of Petaling Jaya at the main entrance to the lobby of Armada Hotel here at 7.45pm on April 14.
The PKR vice-president was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Judge Abu Bakar Manat allowed Tian Chua bail of RM5,000 in one surety and set Sept 11 for mention of the case. Tian Chua posted bail.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Zhafran Rahim Hamzah proposed that bail be set at RM20,000 in one surety but Tian Chua's counsel Michelle Yesudas asked for bail to be set at RM500.
