Ticket counter staff jailed for robbing Myanmar national

A bus ticket counter staff was sentenced to three years' jail and four strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here today for committing gang-robbery on a Myanmar national.
Judge Datin M. Kunasundary handed down the sentence on Mohd Rizuan Roslan, 29, after he changed his plea to guilty.
He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest, which was last June 25.
Initially, Mohd Rizuan had pleaded not guilty and the case was fixed for second day of hearing today.
He was charged, together with another person still at large, with robbing factory worker Maung Linn, 27, of RM300 and a Samsung handphone by a roadside at Hentian Duta here at 10 am last June 25.
The charge, under Section 395 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi prosecuted, while Mohd Rizuan was unrepresented. -- BERNAMA
