TMI editors treated fairly while in custody - Lawyer
SYAHREDZAN: TMI had no problems in dealing with the authorities as full cooperation were rendered from all parties.
The treatment given to the three The Malaysian Insider (TMI) editors were professional and satisfactory.
Lawyer Syahredzan Johan, when contacted, said TMI had no problems in dealing with both the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as full cooperation were rendered by all parties.
He said, in addition to the arrested trio – managing editor Lionel Morais, features and analysis editor Zulkifli Sulong and Malay section editor Amin Shah Iskandar – five other TMI staff have been called in to give their statements.
Of the five, one is a translator, one a human resources staff, one IT manager and two sub-editors.
When asked if TMI would be retracting the controversial March 25 report, Syahredzan said there were no plans to do that just yet.
“There has been no request by MCMC to take down the article,” he said.
On the situation surrounding TMI chief executive Jahabar Sadiq and The Edge Media Group CEO, Ho Kay Tat, who were detained this morning, Syahredzan said they will fight for the duo to be released as soon as possible.
“All details and information have been furnished, including digital images, so there’s no reason for the duo to be remanded further,” he said.
He added that the remand application for Jahabar and Ho would be heard at 11am tomorrow.
