The Home Ministry (KDN) has been ordered to take proactive steps to prepare an outline for its policy on security.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in line with the Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50) vision, KDN through its top management council should prepare the policy for the long term.
"The ministry must constantly strive to get out of the narrow way of thinking by using conventional measures in interpreting enforcement through legal means.
"The world population is expected to be 9 billion in 2050, from the security aspect, which shows that even though there are more sophisticated weapons, and criminals are becoming more violent, enforcers especially security agencies must be more prepared, think ahead and use even more sophisticated technology," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a meeting with the Indian community at the Sanmarka Hall in Hutan Melintang, which also attended by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir here today.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, was commenting on the emphasis of the TN50, including on security matters.
"We must be ahead of the criminals or terrorists who carry out acts which can bring destruction to the world community in general and to this country in particular," he said.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister launched the TN50 with a dialogue held at the Dewan Tunku Canselor, Universiti Malaya (UM) with target groups and youths from around the country who gave their input on their aspirations for the next 30 years. - BERNAMA
