A trader pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a gang robbery charge against him.
Aswat Achmad, 23, was charged with another person, still at large, with robbing R. Pathamavathy, 53 of her gold chain valued at RM12,000 by the roadside of Jalan BRP 1/6, Bukit Rahman Putra, Selangor, at 12.30 pm on Aug 13.
Aswat, who was unrepresented, faces a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Dhiya Syazwani Izyan Mohd Akhir proposed a bail sum of RM10,000 with one surety but Aswat appealed to the judge to reduce the sum saying he did not earn much and had to support a family.
Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and set Nov 29 for mention.
