Traffic summons may be increased - IGP
Khalid is confident a higher compound would change the attitude of the road users.
Discouraged by the attitude of road users, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police may suggest to increase the RM300 traffic summons to a higher amount.
He said it was discouraging to see no improvement in the recent Ops Selamat 8 statistics.
“We will increase enforcement as that is the only way to change the attitude of the people. Maybe we will suggest to increase the compound amount as motorists seemed to have no problems in paying the current RM300,” he said at the Bukit Aman police headquarters today.
“The police will continue to enforce the law and as I have said before, we will not offer any kind of discount in the compounds issued,” he added.
Khalid is confident a higher compound would change the attitude of the road users.
He said throughout the Ops Selamat 8, road users had broken the usual traffic rules - driving above the speed limit, using the emergency lanes and beating the red lights.

“We realise the increase in the number of vehicles on road have also contributed to the number of accidents but what we are worried about is the attitude,” he said.
