Trailer driver in fatal Jempol accident remanded for four days

Police have obtained a four-day remand order against the trailer driver who caused an accident that killed eight people at KM25 Jalan Bahau-Keratong near field Risda Palong, Jempol yesterday.
Jempol district police chief Supt Mohd Noor Noorzainy when contacted by Astro AWANI said the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He added that the 44-year-old driver have a prior conviction for the offence of not wearing a seat belt in 2012.
Noorzainy urged those who witnessed the accident to come forward to assist in investigation.
In the incident at about 2pm yesterday, the Proton Exora carrying a family of six collided head-on with a trailer before being crushed by it and engulfed in flame at KM25 Jalan Bahau-Keratong, near the Risda Palong Estate.
All six of the victims were trapped in the vehicle and burnt to death.
The accident also claimed the lives of husband and wife Osman Mohamed Taip, 31, and Rosniza Othman, 32, while their three-year-old son was severely injured.
