Traumatized residents may apply to relocate

Residents living near a landslide at the Taman Kelab Ukay, Bukit Antarabangsa here can apply to be relocated to a safer location.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department's Assistant Director of Operations, Hafisham Mohd Noor said, however, the permission was given to those who were traumatized and felt unsafe to stay in their homes for fear of a second landslide.

“At present, only (residents of) one house has asked to be relocated for feeling unsafe to live in the area after the incident while other residents still choose to remain in their homes.

"However, based on observation, only seven homes are currently affected and other houses in the vicinity are still in the safe category," he said when met here on Saturday.

Earlier this morning, about 40 occupants of seven houses were ordered to leave their homes following a landslide behind a two-storey terrace house in the area.

The action was taken as a precautionary measure after the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received a report of the incident at 2.21am.

Hafisham said security works and improvements to the landslide were being implemented by the local authorities to reduce landslides in the area.

“The incident is believed to have been caused by soil movement as heavy rain have continued since yesterday afternoon.

"Effective work is being done to prevent future soil movement in the event of heavy rainfall," he said.
