The Triton takes on Borneo Safari

Introduced earlier this year, the Mitsubishi Triton boasts off-road experience like no other and with the Borneo Safari adventure happening in Sabah now, it’s not a surprise Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is sending their newest model into the fray.

Borneo Safari needs no introduction, the adventure has established a reputation for itself since 1991 as one of the world’s toughest 4X4 expedition. The adventure is currently celebrating their Silver Jubilee year in 2015 and to commemorate their achievements Mitsubishi refuses to be left out.

Mitsubishi is no stranger to adventures in East Malaysia, the long standing Pajero and even older Mitsubishi Jeeps had been in the thick of Borneo’s 4X4 action since before the expedition was known as the Borneo Safari, back in the 1980s the expedition was known as the TransBorneo instead.

“MMM is glad to participate in the Borneo Safari event this year with the all-new Triton Adventure. Borneo Safari is one of Asia’s most gruelling off-road events and MMM is proud to say that the all-new Triton is set to conquer all terrain obstacles with its off-road driving capabilities,” said Chief Executive Officer of MMM, Mr. Yang Won-Chul.

The Triton will be entered as a corporate vehicle piloted by Borneo Safari veterans Paul Si from Sarawak and Lionel Yew from Selangor. The pilots plan to keep the Triton as close to its standard specs as possible although modifications like a winch and a bulbar for protection and recovery points while mods to the wheel arch and suspensions had to be done to accommodate the compulsory extreme tread patterned tyres.

So Mitsubishi had outfitted the Triton with the compulsory equipment including reinforced rear bumpers, a Warn winch with 9000 pound pulling capacity and GT Radial Komodo 35-inch tyres for the adventurers’ venture into the wilderness of Borneo.

The Borneo Safari will flag off at 9.30am from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to start its eight days and seven nights track through the various terrain challenges of the Borneo jungles.
