Tun Faisal Ismail and Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Zainul Fitri Othman have been confirmed as not eligible to contest for an Umno supreme council seat as they failed to meet the minimum condition to contest for it.
UMNO executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh said this was because both had never been a member of any divisional committee, the minimum requirement.
"The condition set is that one has to be a divisional committee member for at least one term or had been a supreme council member at least once (one term) before.
"But both Tun Faisal and Dr Zainul have neither," he told Bernama, here, Thursday.
Yesterday, the party issued the confirmed list of candidates from No. 1 to 64, vying for the 25 supreme council seats.
However, the names of the two are not in the list, with No. 11 and No. 60 left vacant.
Tun Faisal is an Umno Youth executive council member, and his candidacy for a supreme council post (as member) was reported to be endorsed by the movement, while Zainul is the Gombak Setia Umno branch permanent chairman.
Ab Rauf, however, said it was up to these two to appeal to the party's management committee or supreme council against the selection committee's decision.
