Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad advised Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA) president, Abdullah Zaik to refer to the holy book Al-Quran before releasing any controversial statements on the implementation of the hudud law.
“In my opinion, if he reads the Al-Quran in detail, it states that Allah does not like those who create chaos or turmoil in the country. So, he should refer to the Al-Quran,” said Dr Mahathir uring a press conference held after the launch of the book entitled “Reminiscences of Insurrection: Malaysia's Battle Against Terrorism 1960-1990" at Wisma Perwira ATM, in Kuala Lumpur.
At the same time, Dr Mahathir also urged ISMA president to stop issuing statements which disturbs the harmony within the community.
Dr. Mahathir stated this in reference to the remarks made by Abdullah Zaik which called the Chinese immigrants who came to Tanah Melayu as ‘trespassers’.
“He is not helping in calming the situation. You don’t have to say it. Just keep it to yourself,” said Dr Mahathir.
He said, any remark which hurts any race is not beneficial to the country.
“It does not contribute to the country’s wellness. There are Chinese community in the country and they are Malaysians and they have their own rights,” he added.
On Tuesday, Abdullah Zaik had in a statement said that the Chinese migrants brought in by the British to Tanah Melayu were ‘trespassers’ and questioned their citizenship and the wealth given to them.
Abdullah Zaik had also proposed for the hudud law not only be implemented for the Muslims but also the non-Muslims.
