Inspector-General of Police today confirmed the withdrawal of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s traffic outriders as the former prime minister had obstructed the law and the constitution.
Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the decision was made last week following Dr Mahathir’s involvement in a series of rallies including Bersih, anti-GST and the Rakyat Declaration.
“That is my decision as IGP,” said Khalid.
“Why do we need traffic escort for an individual who had allegedly obstructed the law and the constitution … we do not condone any act that seemed to breach the law in the country,” Khalid told reporters at the Pingat Kedaulatan Negara award ceremony here today.

Khalid said that the services of police officers from the Special Force Unit (UTK) for Dr Mahathir would continue.
“We have never terminated any escort services in the past or ‘Bodyguard’ for Dr M as his safety has always been monitored by police officers.
“I hope he understands the position of the Royal Malaysian Police in upholding the Rukun Negara,” he added.
Khalid also issued a stern warning to those who were not trained and volunteered to serve as outriders to the Stateman's VIP convoy.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Tuesday notified the Ministry of Home Affairs to allow the matter to be handled by the IGP given its operational nature.
