Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has refused to comment about a statement made by Gua Musang MP, Tengku Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah who expressed doubt that the former prime minister will be able to topple Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the current Prime Minister and Umno President.
"Oh, next time... next time," he said when met by reporters at at Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) closing ceremony held at Dataran Merdeka on Sunday.
Yesterday, freelance writer Mohd Sayuti Omar through his blog Merah Tinta MSO, reported that Tengku Razaleigh was not convinced that Dr Mahathir's effort would bring success as he lacked power in doing so.
"What more if the effort was made through a vote of no confidence in Parliament, it's hard to become a reality," said Tengku Razaleigh as quoted from an interview in the blog.
He said nowadays, most of Umno's alligence leaned towards Najib who could award them projects worth millions of dollars. Many who once supported the former prime minister now supports Najib.
Dr Mahathir, Malaysia's longest serving Prime Minister, had recently voiced out his disappointment over Najib's administration especially in regards to the financial mismanagement of the government-owned investment body, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Recently, Dr Mahathir in his blog chedet.cc, had urged for a forensic investigation to be conducted by police into the allegations made against those linked to the controversial 1MDB 'scandal'.
Stressing that a mere audit was insufficient, he said Barisan Nasional (BN) may lose its support for the next general election should it fail to do so.
"People are still not unsatisfied with 1MDB... they discuss about this matter everywhere.
"If they are not satisfied and don't support BN in the next general election, BN may lose.
"And if BN is rejected, the support towards the President by UMNO division leaders are no longer meaningful," said Mahathir.
He said up until now, the government has yet to provide 'reasonable' answers to certain issues about 1MDB especially since the Chief Executive Officer's post was taken over by Arul Kanda Kandasamy.
Apart from the 1MDB issue, Mahathir on his blog also questioned Najib's family fortune.
The blog which became inaccessible for nearly seven hours on Friday soon after the posting was made was up and running later that night.
Despite the alleged tension, both were however seen seated side by side holding small chats at the LTdL closing ceremony a.
Also present at the event was Dr Mahathir's wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, and also Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
