Two dead in MASwings crash in Kudat
Two people inlcuding the co-pilot of the MASwings Twin Otter aircraft that skidded and crashed in Kudat on Thursday afternoon, succumbed to their injuries and died.
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has confirmed that the duo are co-pilot Marc Joel Bansh, 23, and Tan Ah Chai, 96.
Bernama quoted MAS group chief executive officer/MASwings chairman Ahmad Jauhari Yahya as saying that Bansh died about 9pm, while Tan succumbed to injuries about four hours earlier.
Ahmad Jauhari had also said that two others were injured.
"There was a Philippine national and the rest were Malaysians onboard the aircraft which ferried 14 passengers and two crew members.
"We deeply regret the incident of flight MH3002 that departed from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat at 2.50pm.
"We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased and those involved in the accident, and we are doing everything we can to assist them in this extremely difficult time," he said at a press conference here tonight.
Ahmad Jauhari had said that MASwings had set up a 24-hour call centre and families of the passengers involved could call 03-78841234 for further enquiries.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
Meanwhile, the news of the crash spread like wildfire in the social media, with many sharing photos of the damaged aircraft.
