A civil servant and a teenager drowned while another has been reported missing in separate incidents in Sungai Pahang and Sungai Tertai near here yesterday and today.
The deceased were identified as Pekan Land and Mines Office general junior assistant Zuhair Sulong, 42, and retail shop assistant Khairul Ikhwan Abdul Latif, 18.
The missing man is Mohd Azizul Mohd Ali, 28. In the first incident yesterday, Zuhair, Azizul and their friend, Said Harun, 31, were returning in a fibreglass boat after collecting coconuts on Pulau Che Abbas when it sank due to overloading.
In the 6pm incident in Sungai Pahang near Kampung Pulau Jawa, Zuhair drowned while Khairul Ikhwan was swept away by currents. Said swam back to land.
Pekan police chief Supt Yahaya Othman said Zuhair's body was found at 9.50am today, and sent to the Pekan Hospital.
