Two girls drown after mini tractor plunges into river

Two girls tragically drowned after a mini tractor plunges into a river at Kampung Chegar Malok, Jerteh, here today.

The victim, Nur Ainy Dania Azman, 7, died at the scene after her body was trapped at the mini tractor loader in the 5.50pm incident.

Another victim, Rabiatul Adawiyah Sayuti, 10 tahun was rescued by passersby but was pronounced dead after she was sent to the Besut Hospital.

The tractor driver, Salim Deraman, 46 and the 10-year-old Nur Lia Emilia, 10, were reportedly safe.

Jerteh Rescue and Fire Department chief, Mustafa Ismail said five firemen were dispatched to the scene at around 6.18pm after the department received a distress call from the public.

Mustafa said, the incident occurred after the tractor lost control unexpectedly while descending the hill in the area before it fell into the river.

He also said that the firemen had to dismantle the tractor loader to retrieve the victim’s remains.

The remains were brought to the Besut Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem.
