Two health clinics to serve Besut folk
The government has allocated RM39 million to provide two health clinics for the benefit of the people in Besut, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said today. He said RM20 million of the sum was to build one of the clinics, complete with quarters, in Kampung Raja, which was in the planning stage. The other clinic, also complete with quarters, was built at a cost of RM19 million in Jerteh, he said after launching a health carnival in Kuala Besut here. The ministry had also approved RM200,000 to renovate a rural clinic on Perhentian Island, also in the Kuala Besut area, he said. "The allocation was made in view of the estimated 2,000 people there and the large number of tourist arrivals who require good health services," he added. He also said that the ministry would train Community Development officers to check for hypertension or diabetes and refer the patients to clinics for treatment. Dr Subramaniam today also opened a 1Malaysia Clinic in Kuala Besut which started operations on March 24 and serves almost 26,500 people, mainly farmers and fishermen.
