Two people were killed while two others were injured after the 4WD vehicle they were travelling in plunged into the Mak Ikar river here, this morning.
In the 9.30am incident, the victims Mohd Zul Hafiz Mohd, 27, and Mohd Amirul Nazri Alias, 23, died at the scene of the accident at KM117.1 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road, near the Mak Ikar Bridge, Kerteh.
The two passengers seated at the rear of the vehicle Muhammad Nazirul Iqram Maliki, 20, who hails from Manir sustained injuries on the legs and hands while Abdul Halim Che Adri, 22, from Kampung Menggabang Telipot suffered head injuries.
It is understood that the Mitsubishi Triton, driven by Mohd Zul Hafiz from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan skidded and landed on the road divider before plunging into the Mak Ikar river.
The two injured were rescued by the public while Mohd Zul Hafiz was trapped in the driver's seat.
Mohd Amirul's body was found under the overturned vehicle by the Fire and Rescue Department team about 11.06am today.
Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Said Ibrahim, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
The bodies were taken to Kemaman Hospital while the injured also sought treatment at the same hospital.- BERNAMA
