Two killed in crash at PLUS Expressway

Two people were killed, while two others were seriously injured, in a road crash involving three vehicles at Kilometre 373.5 of the north bound North-South (PLUS) Expressway near Slim River early today.
The crash, which occurred about 3am, killed Muhammad Zahid Mohd Taib, 19, from Bagan Serai, and Nur Arissa Natijah Sophian, 19, from Segamat, Johor. Both died at the scene.
Perak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement deputy chief DSP Mohd Mahiri Hussin said the accident occurred after the Toyota Vios car, in which the deceased were travelling in, was believed to have skidded and crashed into the road divider before hitting a Perodua Alza car
"An approaching Proton Waja car failed to avoid the Toyota Vios and crashed into the two victims (Muhammad Zahid and Nur Arissa Natijah) who were getting out of the car.
"However, the driver of the Toyota Vios was not injured. The driver and passenger in the Proton Waja car sustained serious injuries," he said when contacted here today.
All the victims were sent to the Slim River Hospital.
The crash caused traffic to a crawl for between two and three kilometres on the north bound side of the expressway. -- Bernama
