Two people were killed, while three others were seriously injured, in a road crash at KM57 of the Federal Highway heading towards Rasa, Hulu Selangor, near here early today.
The crash occurred about 1am when a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle, which was heading from the direction of Rasa to Kuala Kubu Baharu, went out of control and collided with a Proton Waja car with five men inside.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt R. Supramaniam identified the victims killed in the crash as S. Muniandy, 31, who was at the wheel of the Proton Waja and R. Parasivem, 28, one of the passengers in the car.
They sustained serious head injuries and their bodies were sent to Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for post-mortem.
The other three passengers in the car -- Suresh Rajah, 37, Subramaniam S. Thiruvengidam, 34, and Surendran Vejaya Kumaran, 19, -- also suffered serious injuries and were sent to the same hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux, Chan Hwa Meng, 62, was not injured, said Supramaniam when contacted.
Meanwhile, Kuala Kubu Bharu fire and rescue station chief Kamil Hamadan said a team of seven firemen were sent to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.23am.
The firemen were able to extricate the victims in the wrecked car at 2.09am and two of them died at the scene, he added.
