Two Kuala Terengganu workers' accommodations fail to comply with Act 446

Terengganu JTK director Mohd Hajazy Jusoh said employers at both construction sites also failed to provide adequate facilities for workers such as bed, mattress and cupboard with a lock which was an offence under the Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

"At the first construction site, there are 192 accommodation units provided for 249 workers consisting of 210 foreigners and 39 locals.

"At the other location, 50 workers (23 permanent residents, 18 foreigners and nine locals) are housed at 35 accommodation units," he told reporters after an integrated enforcement operation on compliance with Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act, here today.

Mohd Hajazy said JTK would obtain further information from employers and employees at both construction sites, and appropriate action against the offenders would be taken soon.

He called on all employers in the state to immediately obtain accommodation certificates from JKT adding that the department would conduct spot checks from time to time to ensure that they comply with Act 446.

The integrated operation also involved other agencies including the Social Security Organisation, the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health.
