Two Malaysians confirmed killed in clash at southern Mindanao

The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed that two Malaysians believed to be part of the Daish militants are killed during a clash with soldiers in the southern Philippines province of Mindanao, last night.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that a full statement regarding the two individuals killed will be released by the police after a thorough investigation has been conducted.

Ahmad Zahid said his ministry has directed for the Sabah waters to be strictly controlled to avoid the area from being a hideout for those suspected to be involved with the Daish groups.

He said security forces have been ordered to mobilise all assets and intelligence information available to ensure that Sabah is safe before further action is taken.

“I wish to confirm that two Malaysians are killed. I have discussed with the Ministry of Home Affairs and we are currently examining the details even though we know their names and where they are from.

“Bukit Aman will issue a full statement and the details from the investigation. However, we would like to thank the Philippine government – especially the police force and the army – after carrying out the operations as stated in the tripartite agreement between the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia,” he said.

Commenting further, Ahmad Zahid said that in the fight against terrorism in the country, the ministry through the Counter Messaging Center (CMC), which is controlled by the Anti-Terrorism Unit will continue to hunt down and identify those involved with militant groups through undercover investigation that is being conducted.
