Two men claim trial to bribing RTD enforcement personnel

Two men, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to bribing a Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcement personnel three years ago.
V. Kumar, 57, and S. Moorthy, 51, were charged with giving bribe of RM600 to RTD enforcement assistant, Azlee Ahmad as an inducement not to take action against them after their lorry was found to be overladen, which is an offence under the Road Transport Act 1987 and Land Public Transport Act 2012.
Kumar, a part-time worker, and Moorthy, who is unemployed, allegedly committed the offence at Jalan Lumut, Ipoh, Seri Iskandar at 10.30am on Nov 12, 2014.
If convicted, they could face a maximum jail term of 20 years and fine of RM10,000 or five times the value of the bribe, whichever is higher.
Judge S. Indra Nehru allowed both the accused bail of RM13,000 with one surety each and set May 18 for re-mention.
MACC deputy public prosecutor Nurul Wahida Jalaluddin appeared for the prosecution while Kumar was represented by counsel M. Kathan and Moorthy was unrepresented. -- Bernama
