Two men were found dead in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) parked at a petrol station at the Juru rest and recreation (R&R) area heading south yesterday.
The bodies of Ong Cheng See, 39, and Rizuan Ismail, 39, were found by customers at the petrol station at about 7.30 pm.
Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said Ong, who was from Melaka, was the driver while Rizuan was from Kedah.
"One of the petrol station's workers thought they were sleeping and wake them up by knocking on the vehicle's mirror but did not get any response.
"The door was locked from inside. The worker then contacted the emergency hotline before the Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and confirmed both men dead," he told reporters here.
He said the vehicle's engine was also found to be on and the police forensic unit's examination showed there was no injury marks on the two bodies.
The bodies of the two men, who were believed to be contractors, had been brought to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for post mortem, he said.
He said police would conduct investigation from various aspects, including studying the CCTV recording at the scene on the case, which had been classified as sudden death.
Meanwhile Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said based on the post-mortem result, the death was caused by carbon monoxide gas contamination.
"Investigation showed there was no criminal elements involved and the two bodies had been claimed by their next-of-kin, he said.
