Two more AirAsia crash victims identified

Two more victims of the ill-fated AirAsia Indonesia Flight QZ8501 which crashed into the Java Sea on Dec 28, have been identified Friday. They were Martinus Djomi and Marwin Sholeh, both males, said AirAsia Indonesia in a statement here today. It said the Indonesian Police Disaster Victim Identification Department (DVI POLRI) had confirmed their identities. The airline also stated that the Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) had confirmed that the remains of seven more victims were recovered today and brought to Pengakalan Bun, Central Kalimantan. "To date, Basarnas has recovered the remains of 48 passengers, 27 of them have been identified by DVI POLRI," it said. The airline also added that sea divers had also been deployed to attach floating bags on the aircraft's tail piece in order to lift it out from the water. It said passengers' belonging found in the focused search area are already secured at the crisis centre in East Java region Police Headquarters in Surabaya, Indonesia. "AirAsia Indonesia will secure other belongings found during the SAR operations and return them to eligible next-of-kin following a strict screening process," it added. On Dec 28, AirAsia Indonesia Flight QZ8501 vanished from the radar while en route to Singapore from Surabaya, Indonesia, with 155 passengers and seven crew members. It crashed in the waters off Pangkalan Bun.
