Two more relief centres open in Perak due to heavy rain

IPOH:Heavy rain yesterday afternoon caused two new temporary relief centres (PPS) to be opened, one for Larut, Matang and Selama district and one in Kerian, bringing the number of PPS to four.
A spokesman for the Perak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said as of 9.30 pm last night, the total residents affected by the floods in the two districts were 289 compared to 199 people yesterday afternoon.
He said for the Larut, Matang and Selama, a total of 42 victims were placed at Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat Ngah Ibrahim, Matang while another 56 were sheltered at a centre opened at 4pm in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tebing Tinggi, Selama bringing the total residents affected in the district to 90 people.
Meanwhile, a PPS was opened at 5 pm in Kerian district at SK Changkat Lobak, Bagan Serai to house 39 flood victims while the number of occupants at PPS SK Parit Haji Aman remained at 152 people since Saturday.
"The evacuation operation to PPS was carried out with the cooperation of various departments and agencies including the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, police, and the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela),” he said.
