Two nasi kandar restaurants ordered to close for two weeks over health concerns

Penang City Council (MBPP) member Ong Ah Teong said the two premises were deemed to be dirty after rat droppings and carcasses as well dead cockroaches were found on the premises.

"The closure is effective from 3pm. The rat droppings and cockroaches were very close to the canned drinks, which is very dangerous for customers," he said to reporters after inspecting the premises here today.

The operation, which began at 10am, was conducted by the MBPP jointly with the Penang Health Department.

Ong said the two premises were given two weeks to clean up.

"The operators can contact the Penang Health Department after one week for the premises to be checked, and if they are found to be clean and satisfactory, they can resume operations," he said.

Meanwhile, another restaurant, also along Penang Road, had a RM1,340 fine imposed for its dirty premises and three workers who were not inoculated against typhoid, which is compulsory for all food handlers.
