Two online traders charged with involvement in terrorist activities

Two online traders were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with providing services for terrorist purposes.
Three charges were made against Muhammad Hassan Syauqi Omar, 23, and one charge against Mohd Shaiful Mohd Jaafar, 31.
They were charged before Magistrate Adibah Husna Zainal Abidin.
On the first count, Muhammad Hassan was charged with directly providing financial services by allowing RM100 to be deposited into his Maybank account knowingly that the service will be used or benefit a terrorist by the name of Muhammad Fudhail Omar, 25.
The offence was allegedly committed at 955, Jalan Bukit Puteri 11/3A, Bandar Puteri Jaya here at 4.36 pm on April 28, 2015.
The second charge was for allegedly allowing RM200 to be deposited into his Maybank account for use by Muhammad Fudhail at the same location at 8.19 pm on May 1, 2015.
He was also charge with a similar offence by allowing RM2,000 to be deposited into his Maybank account for use by a terrorist by the name of Wan Mohd Aquil Wan Zainal Abidin, 38, at the same location in Bandar Puteri Jaya ay 3.03 pm on April 29, 2015.
The charges were made under Section 130O(1)(b) of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 130O(1)(bb) of the same law, whereby those found guilty face an imprisonment for up to 30 years and shall also be liable to fine.
As for Mohd Shaiful, he was charged with directly giving RM890 to Muhammad Hassan through his Maybank account knowing that the money would be used to commit a terrorist act.
The offence was allegedly committed at No 1605, Lorong Teja 34, Taman Keladi here at 9.15 pm on April 12, 2015.
He was charged under Section 130N(b) of the Penal Code and faced an imprisonment for up to 30 years and is liable to fine, if found guilty.
However, no plea was recorded from both of them.
Adibah Husna set Aug 6 for mention pending permission to transfer the case to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Both the accused were not allowed bail as the case comes under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
The prosecution is represented by deputy public prosecutors Nurul Faraheen Yahya and Noor Farahin Ibrahim.
Lawyer Syafiqah Abdul Razak represented Muhammad Hassan, while Mohd Shaiful was unrepresented.
