Two robbers died minutes after robbing a businessman when the vehicle they were in was involved in an accident in Taman Pelangi, here last night.
Johor Baharu Selatan District Police Chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh said in the 11.30pm incident, the 33-year-old businessman was robbed when he went to buy food at Jalan Abaid in the housing area.
In a statement here tonight, Sulaiman said a man armed with a parang suddenly approached the businessman and snatched his rucksack before escaping with another male suspect who was waiting in a Toyota Vios car.
The victim did not relent but chased the suspect's car until Jalan Kuning, but when they realised they were being followed, the suspects drove their car faster towards Taman Pelangi before skidding to the right of the road.
"Unable to control the car, the suspects'car crashed into a four-wheel-drive vehicle with two Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) employees coming from the opposite direction.
"Following the collision, the two suspects died at the scene due to serious injuries while the TNB employees were injured in the head and leg," he said. Sulaiman said police recovered the victim's rucksack containing his personal documents and RM200.
The two suspects, aged 28 and 34 years, and were unemployed. One of them had five previous drug-related criminal records.
