Two siblings were killed when the four-wheel drive they were travelling in skidded and crashed into the road divider when they hit a cow crossing the road at KM21 Jalan Kuantan-Pekan near Kampung Ubai near here last night.
In the incident at about 9pm, the victims who died at the scene were the driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero, Mohd Nazri Ismail, 23, and his sister Nur Hidayati, 19, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.
Two other siblings of the victims, Muhammad Hassan, 21, and Muhammad Nasir, 15, and an adopted son of the family, Mohd Shazrul Amri Shaari, 23, who were all sitting at the back of the vehicle were injured.
Kuantan police chief, ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh, said the incident occurred when the vehicle driven by Mohd Nazri, who was travelling from Pekan to Kuantan hit a cow that was crossing the road causing the Mitsubishi Pajero to crash.
"The vehicle skidded and landed on the divider in the middle of the road, crashing into a barrier that was at the U-turn (Kampung Ubai), causing the vehicle to overturn into the opposite lane," he told Bernama today.
Abdul Aziz said initial investigations showed that the accident occurred when Mohd Nazri lost control of the wheel when trying to avoid crashing into the cow in the middle of the road.
The remains of the two siblings were taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here and the three injured also sought treatment at the same hospital. - BERNAMA
