Two suspicious boats intercepted in Langkawi waters

Two boats believed to be ferrying Rohingya migrants were intercepted by the Royal Malaysian Navy patrol vessel on Chincin Straits near Langkawi waters, here today.

The discovery of the vessel was made at approximately 9.30am said KD Kasturi Commanding officer, Captain Sharum Shaim, adding that the boat was located within the illegitimate Sector F in Malaysian waters.

“We received the information from Commander Lieutenant Ismail Karsin, Commanding Officer KD Ledang who discovered a suspicious boat near Malaysian border waters.”

Preliminary report indicated that the boat was located five miles nautical radius from where KD Ledang was stationed … before the boat turned back after noticing several marine elements doing their patrol,” he added.

The KD Kasturi vessel had joined the Sekat operation since May 25 and it is currently operating in Sector G which boasts 800 miles nautical miles around Langkawi shores.

Ops Sekat had been mobilised to safeguard the country’s maritime assets in the the South China Sea and the Straits off to Malacca with whatever available resources.

There are eight sectors spanning over 1959.75 nautical miles have been identified as high risks and had been the prime assets of RMN including KD Kasturi, KD Lekir, KD Ledang, KD Jerai and several other assets focused on this operation
