Two of the seven students and staff of a tahfiz school who sustained injuries in an accident at KM55 of Jalan Kuala Krai-Kota Bharu yesterday, are still in critical condition.

Kuala Krai Hospital (HKK) director Dr Mohd Salleh Mat Jusoh said the two students were Muhammad Faiz Hafizuddin Mohamad Izahir, 17, from Taman Sri Sentosa, Bukit Bidang in Pasir Puteh, and Ahmad Syakir Azfar Abd Rahim, 16, of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) staff quarters here.

He said Muhammad Faiz Hafizuddin, who sustained internal bleeding following head injuries, was now being treated at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Hospital in Kubang Kerian, while Ahmad Syakir Azfar, who suffered injuries in his abdomen, was at HKK's Intensive Care Unit.

"One of the seven victims is seriously injured, two others suffered minor injuries while the rest have been allowed to go home after receiving treatment.

Speaking to the press here today, Dr Mohd Salleh said Muhammad Aiman Haikal Mohd Nasir,17, from Kampung Lepan Jaya, Gua Musang was being placed at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II in Kota Bharu due to a severe broken right leg and fracture in his left hand.

Also present at the hospital was International Trade and Industries Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed who visited Ahmad Syakir Azfar and Muhammad Syuwari Mana Sikana, 14, where he handed over donations to both victims.

According to Dr Mohd Salleh, the van driver, Muhammad Hamzi Mohammad Husham, 24, from Labok, Machang, who was also the accompanying teacher, was still being treated for minor face injuries and swollen eye.

In the 9.40am incident, 12 students and two teachers of Maahad Tahfiz Al-Hashimi in Kampung Tualang here were travelling in a van to Kota Bharu for a Ramadan function at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.

Seven of the students were killed when the van they were travelling in had skidded and fell into a ravine before crashing into a rubber tapper's house at the stretch.
