Two-day remand for Red Shirts leader

Gerakan Merah V2 legal adviser Mohd Imran Tamrin said Jamal, who is also the movement's chairman, was being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948, Section 500 and Section 503 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"He (Jamal) was detained following several police reports made against him," he told reporters, here, today.

Meanwhile, UMNO Youth Exco member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah said the movement accepted Jamal's detention as it respected the country's law.

"This shows that he (Jamal) dares to face the law and we respect the work of the police," he said.

According to Armand Azha, the movement would gather at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD), here, to show solidarity for Jamal.

Sungai Besar Member of Parliament, Budiman Mohd Zohdi was also present at the Dang Wangi IPD to state his support for Jamal.

"I am present here to give my moral support to him and I am confident we have a just legal system," he said.

Jamal was arrested at KLIA at 8.30 am today upon his arrival from Dubai, United Arab Emirates and taken to the Dang Wangi IPD.

Jamal, who is also Malaysia Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Coalition chairman, arrived at the Dang Wangi IPD at 10.30 am to be interrogated and was accompanied by his lawyer.
