Several Universiti Malaya students have begun to camp at the entrance of the campus this evening in their protest towards the punishment meted upon the eight students involved in an illegal rally in October.
Among those who received the sentence is President of the UM Students Union Fahmi Zainol who had his studies suspended for two semesters.
He was also fined RM600.00 for four charges against him.
“Friends in Universiti Malaya are occupying the entrance of Universiti Malaya, demanding that the punishment meted upon the UM students be dropped. All are invited to fill the entrance of UM, "Fahmi wrote on his Facebook page.

UM, found seven of its eight students involved in the organizing of the speech titled "40 Years: From UM to Jail" last October, guilty, and was given stern warning.
Their studies were also suspended and a penalty was also imposed.
Among the students suspended for two semesters included UM Pro-Mahasiswa president Safwan Shamsuddin who was fined RM300 for two counts.
Fahmi had earlier been charged with nine counts including organizing illegal gatherings, attending an illegal gathering and disobeying university directions
UM, in an official statement, stated that the decision was made in accordance to the University of Malaya (Discipline of Students) Rules 1999.
