KOTA BHARU: PAS has confirmed that it did not receive an invitation to attend the 2021 UMNO General Assembly (PAU) which is currently taking place in Kuala Lumpur.
According to PAS Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, as there was no invitation, the party will not attend the assembly.
"There isn’t any (invitation). As far as I am the secretary-general, I did not receive an invitation to attend (PAU), so we are not attending.
"PAS and UMNO are still in the government and we are led by an UMNO and BN (Barisan Nasional) prime minister," he said when asked whether PAS was invited to attend the PAU which is being held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) starting yesterday.
Commenting further, he said, PAS and UMNO are still in a government where the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is from UMNO.
Meanwhile, commenting on Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi as the new Menteri Besar of Johor, Takiyuddin said PAS welcomed the appointment in line with the wishes of the Sultan of Johor.
Based on the law, he said, the Sultan of Johor has absolute power in the appointment of a menteri besar without the need for advice from any party.
