UMNO to issue show-cause letter to Kamalanathan's assailant

UMNO would issue a show-cause letter to a party member who allegedly punched Deputy Education Minister P.Kamalanathan recently, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He said the letter must be replied by the individual involved, Hulu Selangor UMNO Youth assistant secretary Muhammad Rizuan Suhaimi, before further action could be taken.

"UMNO views the incident seriously and the party's top leadership regrets that it happened," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Tengku Adnan said UMNO rejected any violent action in resolving a problem as committed by the individual concerned against Kamalanathan, who is also the member of parliament for Hulu Selangor.

He said on whatever matter, Umno's stand was for the problem to be solved through consultation or discussion and with no altercation or any form of physical force which could only aggravate the situation.

In the incident last Sunday, Kamalanathan was reportedly punched by a man at the parliamentarian's office after an event held in the constituency.
