Umno members have right to retain leaders or not - Halimah

Umno members have the right to judge the performance of party leaders and determine whether they should be retained or not in their posts.

Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Datuk Halimah Mohd Sadique said as a democratic party, the right of Umno members to elect leaders is guaranteed.

"Party members have the right to judge the performance of leaders during their time in office," she told reporters at an Aidilfitri function of Tenggara parliamentary constituency, here today.

Asked whether she would contest the Wanita Umno chief post held by Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil, the deputy minister said she adopted a wait and see attitude.

Halimah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tenggara, is the former Johor Wanita Umno chief. Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat is expected to be challenged by the Member of Parliament for Pengerang and former Puteri chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
