Umno Semporna confident of simultaneous election
Despite the Sulu terrorists’ intrusion in Semporna, the Parliament’s Umno division is confident the 13th General Election will be conducted without any major mishaps.
The division’s chairman Datuk Seri Nasir Sakaran said the safety measures in Semporna has been heightened and the people’s confidence is getting better.
“We hope that the unfortunate situation here would be returning to normal with the help of the security forces and I believe the general elections can then be held simultaneously throughout the country,” he said.
Nasir also said that, he leaves it to the Election Commisiion (EC) to decide on the simultaneous election.
In 2008, the Semporna Parliament seat was won by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal from Barisan Nasional (BN).
BN also won three other state assembly seats in the area.
Semporna had 35,000 registered voters in 2008.
