KUALA LUMPUR: A Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) needs to be set up to investigate several issues raised by former Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas in his book "My Story: Justice in the Wilderness".
The call was made by UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who listed seven bases that he claimed justified the establishment of the RCI.
They are abuse of power in the issue of appointment of judges; freedom of the judiciary; extreme intervention of the executive in the judiciary; selective and political prosecution; violation of the oath of confidentiality; violation of ethics to lobby the attorney general's office; and insult to national legal institutions.
“Based on these seven principles, the Malaysian UMNO Youth Movement urges the government to immediately set up an RCI to investigate all misconduct and issues raised in the former Attorney General's book.
"This is important to ensure that the people's trust in the bodies involved in defending the rule of law is never eroded," he said in a post on his Facebook account on Friday.
