Umno Youth will not take 2.9 million new voters, who will cast their votes for the first time at the 13th general election, lightly, its chief, Khairy Jamaluddin said.
While describing the group as the determining factor in the election, he said Umno Youth would continue its efforts to identify the new voters in a bid to get them to support the government.
"This group can also be described as fence sitters or swing voters. So, it is important that we find them and convince them that Barisan Nasional is the right choice for them.
"It's an ongoing exercise. So far, we have been quite aggressive," he told reporters after attending a luncheon to celebrate the success of BN Youth Job Fair at Putra World Trade Centre here today.
Based on the big victory recorded by the pro-aspiration teams in the recent campus elections, Khairy said he was confident that the new voters would give their support to the government.
Prior to this, deputy Election Commission chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, had announced that a total of 2,920,828 Malaysian citizens had registered as new voters between 2008 and June 30, 2012.
