Kota Raja UMNO Youth deputy chief, Ezam Mohd Nor did not discount the possibility that party members who were involved in assaulting other members, causing them injuries, could be immediately dismissed.
Be it whatever status they hold in the party, harsh action would be taken against culprits as UMNO did not accept such a culture within the party.
“Stern action will be taken with possible dismissal against any party member involved in such cases… anyone at all.
“Anyone who joins this party needs to put forth our (the party’s) fight first before anything else.
“We won’t compromise with those who get emotional and resort to tarnishing the party’s image like this,” he told Sinar Harian Online when met at the Shah Alam district police headquarters late Sunday night.
Ezam was asked to reply on the incident where a Kota Raja UMNO Youth rep was allegedly assaulted by a former UMNO Youth chief candidate of that area following the latter’s dissatisfaction with the party election results.
The victim, who was also a campaign volunteer for the area’s UMNO Youth chief who won, was allegedly bashed up by two of the ex-candidate’s elder brothers after he lost at the division level.
Ezam said he would hand over the case to the police for investigation.
“We believe the police can solve this case,” he said, adding that a full report on the incident would be forwarded to the party’s central committee soon.
The rep was allegedly assaulted in front of a café in Kota Kemuning, less than 24 hours after the results for the UMNO wings elections were announced.
The rep claimed he was assaulted by two of the former UMNO Youth candidate’s elder brothers, who claimed that their brother lost the seat due to being a victim of defamation.
“When I asked how was their brother defamed, the duo could not reply and began clobbering me after 10 minutes of arguing. I was punched and kicked in the face and body,” he told the news portal.
He said the incident happened around 9.45pm. He said he received a text message from the ex-candidate’s brother around 7.45pm, asking to meet at a café in Section 33.
The victim was subsequently rushed to a nearby private hospital to receive treatment.
