UMNO'S party polls postponement invalid - ROS

He said this was because the decision to postpone the party polls for 18 months was based on the minutes of the Umno Supreme Council (MT) Meeting on July 7, while the MT term for 2018/2021 had ended on June 30, 2021.

"As such, Umno must submit an application to postpone the general meeting or party elections by submitting a proposed date to the ROS soon," he told Bernama when contacted today.

He said ROS is responsible to ensure that all activities and administration of registered societies are in line with the respective institution's constitution and are not in conflict with the Societies Act 1966 or the country's laws.

On June 29, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced that the elections for all posts for the various levels had been postponed for 18 months beginning June 30.

Ahmad Maslan said this had been agreed by the party's supreme council and was in line with Article10.16 of the Umno Constitution which provides that the MT has the right to postpone the polls for the three levels for not more than 18 months from the date the party elections were supposed to be held.

The Umno party elections deadline was on June 30, 2021 exactly three years after the last elections were held.
