The United Nations has been accused of being dysfunctional, especially so in the recent Israel-Palestine issue.
Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) executive director Dr. Zulaiha Ismail questioned what the UN has done to stop Israel’s aggressions towards Palestine.
“There are tonnes of solutions, but none has been implemented. When it comes to Israel, the UN has not done a single thing,” she said when contacted by Astro AWANI.
She said unfortunately, there is nothing PGPF can do in this 5 hours ceasefire which the Israeli army announced it would halt its bombardment of Gaza between 3.00 pm and 8:00 pm Malaysian time.
She said the PGPF does not have a friendly ally to Egypt directly.
Plus, she said the media’s miss-conception that Israel wanted the ceasefire and Hamas refused it, because Hamas had agreed on a ceasefire much earlier since 2008.
“Thank God there is this short ceasefire but I don’t think they will achieve anything, because after five hours it will continue again,” Dr. Zulaiha said.
She said the people of Gaza have agreed not to send rocket to Israel, which hasn’t done anything. So far only one Israeli died. But looking at the number, over 200 plus people got killed in the Palestinian side.
“This is not only about killing it also about depriving them. The quality of life they deserve. They have no water, electricity, and proper sewage system. Everything has been destroyed,” she said.
She said the sad part is that no peace can come out of this.
Last year, PGPF had a study on Israel and the international judges found Israel guilty of genocide.
“We are very happy to report that our fellow activist in Europe and US are working towards that and our only problem is that we cannot bring it to the International criminal Court,” she said.
She also said, the people in Gaza have nothing else to lose, plus medical supply trucks have been difficult to get into Gaza. On the humanitarian ground aid truck, NGO, doctors should be allowed in to help.
On Thursday, Israel and Hamas have agreed to a UN request to halt hostilities for five hours on humanitarian grounds..
The Israeli army announced it would halt its bombardment of Gaza between 3.00 pm and 8:00 pm Malaysian time.
Israel's campaign, which entered its 10th day, has killed 231 Palestinians so far, with a Gaza-based human rights group saying over 80 percent of them were civilians.
In the same period, militants have fired more than 1,200 rockets at Israel.
